Because everyone deserves a safe, affordable, hopeful place to call home, and when that's the case our entire community benefits.
What we mean when we say YIMBY
YIMBY - Yes In My Backyard - isn't a slogan for us.

It's a values-based position.

It means:

-
Everyone deserves a safe, affordable, hopeful place to call home
-
Housing that is affordable across the income spectrum is essential infrastructure.

Communities with smaller wealth gaps are healthier, safer, and more connected for everyone. In other words, we're all better off when we all have a home.

More housing - at the right prices, with the right supports - helps make that possible.
Why This Matters Now
Across communities, the gap between what people need and what's available has grown.

People are:

-
priced out
-
pushed further from support
-
left without stable housing

We're seeing:

-
projects delayed or blocked
-
support eroded by fear or misinformation
-
short-term comfort prioritized over long-term wellbeing

And that's how housing crises persist.
What happens when we keep saying "no"
When we try to push homelessness out of sight—by blocking housing, displacing people, or saying “not here”—we don’t solve the problem.

We make it less visible.
And more severe.

This has been described as an “invisibility trap”:
Efforts to avoid discomfort in the short term can deepen harm over time—driving people further from support, increasing instability, and reinforcing stigma.
?
So let's be clear
We've heard well-meaning concerns that taking a YIMBY stance might not appeal to everyone.

They're right.
It won't.

This isn't about being agreeable. It's about being clear what we stand for.

We know not everyone is comfortable with change.

We also know that protecting individual convenience at the expense of collective well-being has real consequences.

So yes.

We're YIMBY.

We believe in making room for one another.
We want people to join us - but we won't water this down to make it more palatable.

We're not seeking consensus.
We're not asking permission.

We're taking a stand for housing for all.

And we're inviting you to take a stand with us.
What YIMBY is
(and what it isn't)
Let's be clear about who—and what—we're talking about.

YIMBY means:
-
Supporting more housing in our communities
-
Saying yes to affordable and supportive housing
-
Backing decisions that make it possible for more people to live, belong, and thrive

YIMBY does NOT mean:
-
Supporting every development, no matter what
-
Ignoring legitimate concerns about design, safety, or impact
-
Dismissing people who are asking good-faith questions

Not everyone who opposes a project is a "NIMBY."
And not every project gets everything right.

But when opposition is rooted in fear of who might move in—or a desire to keep others out—that's when it becomes a barrier to solutions.
