For Municipalities
The Commitment
Municipalities participating in YIMBY Week are encouraged to go beyond a flag raising and publicly commit to at least one concrete, time-bound action that improves how housing gets built or approved.
Actions

Bring forward a motion that sets a clear "pro-housing" direction in your community. This will be curated to your local needs, by identifying and recommending improvements within policy to create momentum for new builds and projects that make sense.

Set a healthy trend by finding ways to be transparent with data. Publish credible reports and metrics that clearly guide or supplement development discussions. Open data helps directly back certain social measures or growth of support and housing systems within your community.

This is no easy task, but the more we can try and locate suitable locations for affordable housing builds, the more quickly we can help reach local, provincial, and federally mandated targets. Find ways to break free of local guarding and hesitancy by being open and deliberate.

The greatest strength of community is elevating voice. Create a public meeting allows everyone to contribute their hopeful vision and ideas before conversations become too specific or tied to an address and timeframe. Proactively discuss what can be improved locally for all.
